How to Order Custom Stockings - A Step by Step Guide

There are a lot of choices when it comes to ordering our custom stockings. Hopefully this overview will make it easier for you to order if you have questions. Of course, you can ALWAYS contact us at shop@tartanhaberdashery.com. 

 

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RECEIVE A CUSTOM KNIT STOCKING?

Custom order stockings have a lead time of 8 weeks.

 

WHEN CAN I ORDER A CUSTOM KNIT STOCKING?

Orders can be submitted at any time. HOWEVER, custom stocking orders can be ordered January 1 through September 1st of a calendar year to guarantee delivery by that Christmas. 

 

WHAT IS INCLUDED when I order a custom stocking? 

  • a customized hand knit stocking in the style, design + colors you choose
  • a storage box
  • a personalized name stocking tag comes with every stocking order-- you have the option to UPGRADE and have a knitted name instead

 

WHERE WILL I SELECT ALL OF THE CUSTOM CHOICES?

As you add the stocking to the shopping cart, you will fill out all of your personalized choices. Those include:

  • size: medium, large, extra large
  • style: stocking tag or upgrade to knitted name
  • cuff style: folded cuff, straight cuff, roll neck
  • yarn colors: a text box to enter the various colors you want of the stocking you've selected
  • stocking liners: would you like liners sewn into your stockings? Liners are recommended for size extra large (because of the size--it helps maintain the shape). For sizes medium and large, they are not necessary. It is completely up to your taste.  

 

For stocking tags (no upgrade to knitted names) you will answer the following: 

  • tag ribbon: what ribbon would you like used on your stocking tag?
  • tag text: what name/initial/monogram do you want stamped?
  • tag stamp: which of the stamps would you like on the back of your tag?
  • tag ink color: which color ink would you like me to stamp with?
  • felt balls: what color of wool felted balls would you like?

 

For knitted names (upgrade) in the stocking, you can skip the tag information and enter the following into the 'other notes':

NOTE: Knitted Names are only options on size Large and Extra Large.

How do you want your knitted name to appear?

  • single side: the name will appear on one side
  • wraparound: the name will wraparound the entire top of the stocking
  • centered front: the name will appear across the front (part of the name will appear on each side)

What style of knitted name would you like?

  • CAPS: all letters will be upper case
  • Regular: the first letter is capitalized, the others are lower case
  • Script: the letters connect (cursive)

 

A description of the PROCESS, once ordered: 

  1. When your custom order is received, I will fill out your details on the custom stocking worksheet. That worksheet is then sent to you for verification. Once verified, I begin your order.
  2. The stocking is hand knit according to your custom color and style choices. 
  3. Once completed, the stocking is washed (using wool wash) and then blocked ( a process called wet blocking). The washing and blocking is integral to creating that stocking shape.
  4. After that, the knitted loop is sewn into the stocking.
  5. If you ordered a stocking liner, the cotton fabric is then hand sewn into the stocking, if specified. Liners are matched to the color choices.
  6. If you ordered a stocking tag (not a knitted name), I complete the tag per your customization specifications.
  7. The stocking is prepared for shipping and then shipped.
